The Ultimate Desert Destination: November at La Quinta Resort

The Ultimate Desert Destination: November at La Quinta Resort

The Southern Californian desert is just about the perfection getaway destination for early November. Mid-eighties and sunny, with blue skies as far as the eye can see, you will find yourself enjoying the heat in the desert just as Fall starts to shift from sweater weather to jacket and glove weather in the North East. But desert nights get cool. As the sun sinks below the mountains, you'll be able to pull out your best sweaters or leather outerwear to keep you warm.

A born and raised New Englander, now living in NYC, one would think I'd be used to the seasonal swings of North Eastern weather by now (I am not, however). Though Fall might be my favorite season, and certainly my favorite to dress for, as soon as it turns from crisp to downright chilly, I yearn for croptop, sandal and poolside cocktail weather.

This November, I was lucky enough to be invited for a stay at the legendary La Quinta Resort and Spa. La Quinta Resort, situated in the Coachella Valley just a few miles from Palm Springs, boasts world class golf courses designed by Pete Dye, Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, as well as pools, spas, tennis and breathtaking mountain-scapes.

The resort, designed by Gordon Kaufmann and built by William Morgan, opened to a star-studded clientele in 1926. The resort is designed as a series of bungalows surrounding intimate pools, perfect for someone seeking both sun and privacy, something which generations of celebrities have appreciated. My bungalow bordered the same pool that Frank Capra wrote the screenplay to Lost Horizon by in 1937.

While at La Quinta Resort, I soaked up as much of the desert sun as possible. They even took me on a tour of Joshua Tree National Park, a park that claims an area larger that that of my childhood home state, Rhode Island. (And it was the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot.)

The adobe-style resort is the perfect architecture for the boundless beauty of desert skies, palm trees and mountains. After some golf, poolside drinks and pictures, I will attest that La Quinta Resort was the perfect desert destination! I recommend any travel enthusiast in need of some winter sunshine R&R to experience La Quinta.
